Code of Ethics.

The Code of Ethics promotes and maintains a high standard of ethics in the practice of industrial and occupational hygiene and associated activities.

Ethics principles

The Associate or Registered Industrial Hygienist shall:

  1. Practice using accepted professional standards

    Practice using currently accepted professional standards, principles, and methodologies to ensure that health risk assessments and recommendations are meaningful in protecting the health of working individuals.

  2. Uphold integrity and professional judgement

    Act responsibly to uphold the integrity of the profession and not compromise professional judgement, including cooperation with professional associations and credentialing organisations concerning ethics matters.

  3. Comply with legislation and professional standards

    Comply with the legislation, policies, and professional standards governing the practice of occupational hygiene and associated activities.

  4. Respect confidentiality and privacy

    Respect and keep confidential the privacy of personal, business, and professional information that arises in the course of occupational hygiene practice and associated activities.

  5. Avoid and declare conflicts of interest

    Avoid situations where personal or business conflicts of interest occur. Where such interests are present, declare them to relevant stakeholders.

  6. Maintain current professional knowledge

    Maintain working knowledge of current developments in occupational hygiene practice and participate in activities that advance and promote industrial and occupational hygiene knowledge.

Application of the Code

The Code applies to all practitioners accredited under the scheme, including those using the RAIH (SG) or RIH (SG) designation.
