The Registered Industrial Hygienist Board (RIH Board) is a not for profit, professional credentialing body under the auspices of the Occupational and Environmental Health Society, Singapore.
The objective of the Code of Ethics is to promote and maintain a high standard of ethics in the practice of industrial/occupational hygiene and associated activities.
The primary role of the industrial/occupational hygienist is to protect the health and safety of persons at work and community against health hazards arising from workplaces.
The Code applies to the Registered Industrial Hygienists within the RIH Board, and to applicants seeking RIH Board certification.
The Associate or Registered Industrial Hygienist; RAIHS (SG) or RIH (SG) shall:
1. Practice using currently accepted professional standards, principles and methodologies to ensure that the health risk assessments and recommendations are meaningful in protecting the health of the working individuals.
2. Act responsibly to uphold the integrity of the profession and not compromise professional judgment, including cooperating with professional associations and credentialing organizations concerning ethics matters and the collection of information related to an ethics matter.
3. Comply with the legislation, policies and professional standards governing the practice of occupational hygiene and associated activities.
4. Respect and keep confidential the privacy of personal, business and professional information that arises along the course of practice of occupational hygiene and associated activities.
5. Avoid situations where personal or business conflicts of interest occur. If present, to declare such interests to the stakeholders.
6. Maintain working knowledge of current developments in the practice of occupational hygiene and participate in activities that advance and promote industrial/occupational hygiene knowledge.
